  2. Pour hot over the bananas and vanilla wafers.
  3. Top with a sweetened meringue and bake.
Described in a TODAY article by Heather Martin, RD. Started appearing in newspapers and community cookbooks in the 1980s. The instructions don't say to chill before serving, but it benefits from sitting so the cookies soften. Food safety note: the American Egg Board says baking over a hot filling at 350 F for 15 minutes should put you in the clear, or use pasteurized egg whites.
